Old Fashioned Berry Pie

Old Fashioned Berry Pie

This is a great recipe from one of my mom's old cook books. Our favorite type of berries to use are boysenberries or blackberries.

Ingredients

  • 2 Frozen prepared pie crusts
  • 4 cups fresh berries (I like frozen boysenberries or blackberries)
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated lemon rind
  • 1-2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

1

Pre-heat oven to 425-F.

2

Combine all ingredients, except the berries and butter.

3

Arrange half the berries in the frozen pie shell and sprinkle with half the sugar mixture. Pour the rest of the berries and repeat.

4

Dot the filling with butter.

5

Remove the second crust from the tin and place it upside down on top of the pie.

6

Bake 40-50 minutes, or until filling is tender and crust is nicely browned.

Rating: 5 out of 5.
