Grandma’s Spaghetti & Meat Sauce with Allspice

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 2 large cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked pepper
  • 1 (15oz) cans Hunts Tomato Sauce
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1 pound spaghetti

In a large skillet, add ground beef, breaking up the meat very well. Once the meat starts to brown, add the garlic. Cook the meat until it is totally browned and beginning to stick to the pan.

While the meat is browning, add the allspice, salt, and pepper.

Add the tomato sauce and water.

Bring to a simmer and cook, uncovered, about 30 minutes, or longer (the longer you simmer, the more tender the meat will be. Add more water as needed.

Taste and add additional salt, if needed.

Meanwhile cook spaghetti. Reserve 1/2 cup cooking water before draining pasta.

Toss the spaghetti with the meat sauce; add pasta water if the sauce seems thick.
