Grandma’s Stuffing


This is the stuffing my grandma always made at Thanksgiving. It is a family favorite.

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 tablespoon allspice
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 onion, minced
  • 6 stalks celery, chopped
  • 1 bunch flat leaf parsley, chopped
  • 1 granny smith apple, chopped
  • 2 small red apples, chopped
  • 1 cup turkey or chicken broth (preferably from the pan of the roasted turkey)
  • 3/4 loaf white sandwich bread
  • 1 teaspoon sugar

  1. Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the meat and cook until the meat is well browned and sticking to the bottom of the pan.
  3. Add allspice, salt, and pepper and stir.
  4. Add the onion, celery, and parsley; cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.
  5. Add the chopped apples; cook for 3 minutes.
  6. Add the broth; stir until heated through.
  7. Add the bread, and sugar; stir until well combined.
  8. Cover the pan and simmer for 15 minutes.
